Penny’s Story
Why a holistic pet boutique? It all started with an adorable Chocolate Lab named Penny…
Sadly, in 2004, shortly after Al and Yvonne started “dating,” Al’s beautiful 4 year old Chocolate Labrador Retriever named Penny, succumbed to Lymphoma – a form of cancer very common in dogs. By the time he received Penny’s diagnosis, she was already at Stage IV and was in a great deal of pain. It came on suddenly and advanced rapidly. From the time he noticed something was wrong with Penny until he got her diagnosis, only several days had passed – less than a week. He made the difficult choice to end her suffering rather than undergo the expensive treatment options. Al was devastated. At the time, we did not know this was such a common occurrence in dogs, so we started researching cancer in pets. We discovered a mountain of information about the commercial pet food industry and how the food our pets eat is literally killing them. This is the “event” that propelled us to embark on a business focused on holistic pet nutrition.
